This site is mine. I want you to know what gets collected, why, and what you can do about it. No buried lede ... if you only read one thing, it's this: I use your data to run the site, understand what's working, and email you only if you asked to be emailed.
Who this applies to
This policy covers visitors to jonoherrington.com and anyone who signs up for email updates from me. If you follow a link to someone else's site or tool, their policy governs what happens there.
What the site collects when you browse
Like most sites, this one uses hosting and analytics services. Those services may process technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, general location derived from IP, pages you view, and timestamps. I use that information to keep the site running, fix problems, and see aggregate patterns (what people read, not a dossier on one person).
The site is hosted on Vercel. I also use Vercel's analytics and performance tools so I can see how the site performs and how it gets used. Those products have their own documentation and privacy terms ... this page summarizes how I intend to use them, not every clause in a vendor contract.
Email list and newsletter
If you subscribe for updates, I collect whatever you submit on the signup form ... usually at least your email address, and sometimes a name or other optional fields. I use that information only to send you what you signed up for and to honor unsubscribe and preference requests.
Email delivery runs through an email service provider that stores subscriber data on my behalf. They handle sends, bounces, and unsubscribe links. I don't sell email addresses or rent the list. I don't use your subscription to train third-party AI models.
Every marketing email includes a way to opt out. If you unsubscribe, I stop sending you that type of message except where the law requires a transactional notice (for example, confirming your request).
Cookies and similar tech
The site and its vendors may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies needed for security, preferences, or measurement. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may change how parts of the site behave.
Legal bases and retention
Where privacy law requires a "legal basis," I rely on legitimate interests to operate and improve the site, on contract or consent where that's what the law expects, and on consent for email when the rules say I need it. I keep personal data only as long as needed for those purposes or as required by law, then delete or anonymize it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export personal data I hold about you, to object to certain processing, or to withdraw consent where processing was based on consent. You may also have the right to complain to a data protection authority.
To exercise those rights or ask a question about this policy, contact me on LinkedIn. I'll respond within a reasonable time.
International visitors
I work from the United States. If you visit from another country, your information may be processed in the U.S. or other regions where my vendors operate. I use providers that offer appropriate safeguards where the law requires them.
Children
This site isn't aimed at children, and I don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe I have, contact me and I'll delete it.
Changes
I may update this page when the site, tools, or law change. The date at the top will move when I do. If the change materially affects subscribers, I'll use a reasonable way to tell you ... for example a note in the newsletter.
